glug glug
oh yes, there was champagne and many other drinks

well, here we are in 2006. the world hasn't ended (once again..) and it's same old same old. i've been reading everyone's 2005 sum-ups and 2006 resolutions and i'm happy to say that i think that mine are still attainable one week after setting them. thankfully, i don't feel the need to go back and edit that post.

ok, i have my first finished project of 2006. of course, i started it way back in 2005 but here we have it done. it's the sleepy mitered square pillow in all its glory!

sleepy mitered square pillow
sorry for the dark picture.. but it WAS sleepy time

yarn: bernat handicrafters in ecru
needles: US9 denise’s (knit flat)
pattern: scarf-o-matic's sari silk cushion mitered square pattern

after speaking with kaitlyn about how i was going to seam this baby up, i decided, yes, it would be best not to sew the inner pillow into cover because it would suck if i ever spilled something on it and wanted to clean it. so i thought and thought about how i would close the thing up since i'm terrible with zippers and it's not like i had a matching zipper anyway. kaitlyn suggested velcro but i couldn't think how i would implement that so i went with buttons.

it works, kind of
my sorry-ass attempt at making this work

which works for now but i will ultimately get rid of it.. because, in usual gleek style, i had a brainwave at midnight while brushing my teeth right before bed. i'll make a small flap out of the same material that i'll sew onto the knitted fabric at the opening and put velcro on that! yep, i may just do it this weekend too even though i already put away the sewing machine. but, as far as i'm concerned, this project is done and i can now start work on something else.

has anyone else noticed that the perfect number of ongoing projects is 3? i have to have three stable things going on at all times to feel right with the world. the aminami shawl is progressing slowly because, quite frankly, it is a boring stitch pattern and i'll be lucky to finish the darn in 2006 (maybe i should add that to my list of 2006 goals?) so i'm not going to count that shawl toward my project count as it's extremely "on-going" and doesn't really enter my radar.

the spiders have been going to the point more often lately. two of our members have announced that they are moving from the NYC area to other parts of the country and now the need to spend more time together is paramount. upon one recent trip to the point, kaitlyn was fretting over her brooks farm duet because she kept finding these annoying pieces of yarn fuzz wrapped around the yarn. you knitters know these things for sure. they're annoying because you have to cut them off. they don't just come off when you pull at them.

introducing...

we hate you!
the snarfle

yep, we've dubbed these things "snarfles". please hereafter use this term. i plan on submitting it to wikipedia within the month. anyway, the craziness that is 2006 has begun! after today's post, i will probably change the RSS 2.0 feed on this site to only serve up truncated posts which will force you to click through to my site. i've noticed that traffic is a little slow around here and that you really don't comment as much when you don't click through. i'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes.

The pillow looks great! I rather like the buttons :)

I am also pleased to report that I only encountered one other snarfle in my skein of Brooks Farm :)

When I saw those buttons I thought "cute, but why didn't she use Velcro?" You stole the thought right out of my brain :-).

Oh! Oh! This is going to drive me crazy - I complained of roving snarfles when Marie was teaching me to drop spin, and she told me a name for them. I can't remember what it was, though!

The pillow really is terrific. I'd be tempted to make one right away if I didn't shudder to think of the cat hair it would collect. How much yarn did it require?

Great pillow - and the original is a great idea too!

I feel like Snarfles was the name of my friend's Gund bear that's about 20 years old...all in all a great term! Good luck submitting to wikipedia!

Hi, Happy New Year!
I love your new pillow!!
And the hat in your previous post. Lots of nice FO's = satisfaction, right?
(Not my case though, I've been knitting on my Clementine's cardi, and there's progress, but God I'm a SLOW knitter!)
