why is it that time is flying so much faster as i'm getting older? the other day on the F train back home from work, i was sitting and staring into space because i had finished my book and was too tired to knit. it's these occasions where i notice the people around me and have my "new york moments". for example, i was eavesdropping on this trio of youngsters, a couple (boy and girl) and their guy friend. the girl says, "i just turned 15! i can't believe YOU'RE 17. god, that's soooooo OLD!"

*silence*

really, i nearly burst out laughing but stopped myself because that would have indicated that i was indeed eavesdropping. the inanity of that statement left me speechless. i don't feel old and yet i'm twice her age! kids. geeeeez. i can't believe that i'm going to have a baby that in a few years time is going to think that i'm OLD and so uncool. it makes me laugh.

so january is almost over and i'm almost at 34 weeks (with a due date of march 15th) and time is flying. just to keep you up-to-date and all, here's a quick state of the knitting recap.

almost done!
almost done!

the EZ february sweater will be done before february! amazing. it was so quick and took just over 1 ball of cashsoft DK (it was exactly one ball for the body and then some for the sleeves.) here the sleeves are blocking and tonight i will seam them up and weave in the ends. if i'm lucky, maybe i'll sew the cutie-patootie buttons on that i bought at the point on friday.

getting closer...
getting closer...

the 3-hole shawl is chugging along, of course. i'm just about to start the repeat where i put in the 3rd and final hole. then it's 7 repeats of the pattern, the garter stitch border, bind-off, and block.

the pirates hat is blocked and it looks ok to me but definitely will not fit my dad. it fits me nicely and fits KP very snuggly which means it definitely won't fit my dad as my dad's head is bigger. on to plan B which is a hat and mitten set made out of the lovely chocolate brown debbie bliss merino aran that i have left over from this project. i plan on casting-on for mom's mittens later this week. let's hope that i get both parent projects done before the end of february.

over the next few weeks, i'll be updating you on the state of our apartment as well. i'm a big fan of apartment therapy and have decided to take on revamping our apartment in anticipation of the peanut's arrival (don't freak.. we've been working on it for weeks and i just decided it was probably a good idea to take pictures and document it. i'm not tearing down any walls or anything. just switching out furniture, moving it around and making room.) stay tuned for before and after photos and what i've bought on my budget to get everything in order.

on a blog related note, mint 2.0 came out yesterday and i immediately installed the upgrade and screwed a bunch of things up as i usually do. i think that everything is back in working order now but you may have seen a lot of RSS updates and corrupted feeds over the last day or so. my apologies. we should be golden now.

Aw, that sweater is going to be SO cute on your Peanut! What a cute pattern.
And that is a serious bummer about your dad's hat--a fair isle hat is a lot of effort to go through and then have it not fit. But I'll bet you'd look cute as a button wearing it around town. ;)

So who's getting the pirate hat?! It's such a cute pattern that you won't have any problems finding a recipient... I can't wait to see the February sweater with buttons! And I see you did the neato slip st edging.

Yeah, who gets the pirate hat now? Are you keeping it for yourself? Last I saw, it was exceptionally lovely and must be proudly flaunted.

Have fun with the onset of your nesting. It sounds like you've got a lot to undertake.

I'm excited to see Peanut snuggled in EZ February!

The EZ sweater is looking great; can't wait to see it done! As for baby rooms... we actually did knock out walls and stuff. Ugh, what a headache.

When I watch teenagers in their natural habitats, I wonder what kind of idiot I was at that age and cringe just a little. Thank goodness that's over with! :)

Youth really is wasted on the young.

I'm really bummed for you with the hat being too small, I guess the postitive thoughts just weren't strong enough eh?

Great to see the February sweater so close to finishing though :)

I do that all the time - I feel so old and all my friends are really old and, oh my god my best friend is 26, she's ancient, but that's only because I've known her since I was born. I'm 23 and everyone at work makes fun of me for saying that I'm old when they're all in their 30's and above. My mom told me I should find a boyfriend who's 25-30 and I nearly died because that would be too old for me. I have been doing that since I was about 13, though, so you would have probably laughed at me, too.

I love that baby sweater, it's absolutely adorable! :D

LOL about the age comment....I was in class yesterday chatting it up with the girl sitting next to me. I mentioned that I have a daughter. Surprised, she asked me my age (she's 19). When I told her that I'm 28, she looked all shocked and said, "Wow, I never would've guessed that you were like...a decade older than me."

Umm, thanks.

It's compressed time. When you're 31 a week is a smaller percentage of your life than when you're 17.

That's exactly what I was going to say, Colleen. Except I was going to say it in years. :) When you're five, time drags on forever, because a year is 1/5 of your entire life. At 30, a year is 1/30 of your entire life. It's our perception of time that changes.

sorry about the hat, but your shawl and baby sweater are fab. i can't wait to see the shawl in person -- i just kinda can't visualize it. it'll be great for the winter.
when i was a teen, i thought 30 was ancient history. eek.

I know - I keep forgetting my age and telling people I'm like four years younger than I really am! And this baby thing certainly doesn't make me feel any younger!!

Wow, you are getting close - March will be here before you know it! Hope you're feeling well and the subway riders are graciously offering their seats by now ;)

Too bad about the hat. I hope that means you're going to keep it for yourself - it is adorable!

I'm with you. I had the same experience with those younger than me when I was teaching. All you can do is laugh!

The Feb. sweater is looking great, and the peanut will inevitably look supercute in it!
