don't answer that!

i'm home sick today. apparently, i can go to work sick. i can go to work pregnant. but i cannot go to work pregnant AND sick. let me tell you how impossible that is... pretty damn impossible. last week i rushed rushed rushed to get two projects finished up at work so that i could have an easy last week this week. then saturday hit and i started sneezing. i thought that it was just allergies but now that i'm still stuffy and miserable two days later, i realize that i caught a cold. i HAVE to get better before the peanut decides to show herself. can you imagine going into labor while having a cold? i'm trying not to.

so, here's a quick and mostly photographic update of the state of things before i hop in bed for a nap.

the brooklyn handspun trifecta is done.

the trifecta is complete!
the trifecta is complete!

yarn: brooklyn handspun superwash soft spun sock yarn in winter's calling
needles: 2.5mm addi turbos, magic loop and 3.25mm addi turbos for the hat
pattern: none for the socks and mittens. the hat i used this bonnet pattern from hello yarn

because i know that you all love the care bears, here's sunshine bear being a good sport and modeling them for us.

dress-up time!

KP asked if i was playing dress-up. i'm glad i'm having a girl! thanks to veronique for letting me use her icord maker for the mittens!

this is how the peanut's room is looking.

progress on the peanut's room
progress on the peanut's room

pretty messy, but almost there. the crib (on the right) is holding lots of clothing and other assorted baby crap until i can get around to sorting and unloading it. on the floor, you'll see the flor tiles i bought. i love them! they go perfect with the room and make it feel much warmer in there. that cane rocking chair was a gift from my parents and i'm looking forward to sitting in it and looking out the window nursing the peanut. it was a little hard on the bum so i constructed a VERY simple pillow for it out of some cute bee fabric i had in the stash.

bees!
cushion

and now that i'm home sick, i've started up some new projects to keep me going.

monkey socks using some lovely koigu that sandra bought for me for my birthday last year.

monkey beginnings
monkey beginnings

they are actually much further along than this given that i've done nothing but knit, watch james bond movies, and mouth-breathe for the past 48 hours.

and my dad's mittens using leftover chocolate brown debbie bliss merino aran (no pictures yet).

ok, just a few last pictures to send you on your way. i got some lovely gifties in the mail late last week. knits for the peanut!!

hat and sock set

a lovely hat and sock set from danielle.

BSJ with booties

and i'm pretty sure this is a baby surprise jacket and some booties from sarah (i miss you sarah!)

thanks ladies! i'm sure the peanut will look smashing in these!

and if you're a battlestar galactica fan and haven't watched last night's epsiode yet, stop reading. dude, i'm sure starbuck is a cylon. one of the final five. my vote is that she wakes up in a bath of goo by the end of the season! all of the dialog in the episode points to it. watch it again if you don't believe me. there's no way that leoban could know everything that he knows about her and then encourage her to die without knowing that she'd be reborn. she even said to lee, "they're waiting for me on the other side." uh huh. cylon. i'm loving this season!

Don't overdo it Gleek. A couple of weeks of R&R will do you, and the Peanut, wonders.

The fact that Starbuck is a girl?!? What's up with that? DUDE! I remember the ORIGINAL Starbuck. Although I was always an Apollo girl. I go for the dark starfighters.

I hope you feel better soon - but I wouldn't worry about being sick and being in labor. I'll bet that pushing out a baby is like eating some really strong horseradish - clears those nasal passages right out!

Great to see you the other night!

It is indeed a Baby Surprise - good eye! The hat-mitts-booties set is darling, and looks like it can serve a valuable added function in case you need to hobble the peanut or tie her to something stationary when she gets a little bigger. :)

I have GOT to see that BSG episode - I was incredibly virtuous last night and worked on a manuscript all evening, denying myself television, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out. Sounds like it's going to be a wild ride to the end of the season. I'm with you on Starbuck/Bath of Goo.

And here's hoping you can climb out of your own bath of goo VERY soon - labor with a sinus cold sounds horrible! You gotta be able to breathe!

Hee hee, I really hope that being in labor is like eating horseradish!
Love the toe hat! I'm glad you got some use out of the i-cord maker, normally it's just gathering dust...
And now I'm dying to make a baby surprise jacket. Would you mind having 2? :) Let me know if there's a specific baby item you might want! I got some lovely variegated Noro Lily in pastel shades from Serendipity... Oh, this baby knitting is going to get me out of my slump, I can feel it!

I really don't want to scare the baby out of you, but I think that illness is actually a sign that the baby is coming. I got the worst cough of my life about three days before my daughter was born -- not to say that you're going to go through labour with a cold, but just take care of yourself. Either way, you'll forget about the cold while in labour -- there'll be other things on your mind. Best wishes!

Get well soon!! You don't want to greet the little Peanut with a sterile mask over your face! The Brooklyn Handspun Trifecta is SO adorable. That is one warm CareBear! Wow, the generosity of the knit community is great, right? The little set from Danielle and jacket & booties from Sarah are just adorable! Peanut is a lucky girl :) Oh, and I love to play dress-up too - can I come over and play with you and Peanut sometime? ;)

That really sucks that you're sick, glad that you made the wise choice to stay home. I love the trifector, and Peanut's room is really coming along, those tiles are such a great find.

Now feel better, NOW! :)

The trifecta is adorable but I'm so sorry you're sick!! Stay home as much as possible and get lots of rest if you can. And eat hot & sour soup - I'm convinced it has magic curative powers.

The Peanut's room looks like it's really coming along nicely and I'll bet that rocker will be perfect. Just not quite yet!

Oh my gosh... the trifecta is fabulous!!! I am soooo boring - I am knitting a baby hat and booties in a solid cream color... I need to get inspired by you!
by the way, is 100% wool too itchy for the baby stuff? What do you use? I want to veer away from synthetics.

Hope you feel better!!! I feel kind of bad because I am semi-hoping that Starbuck is a cylon just because I think it may be the only way she can come back, and her character is one of my favorite parts of the show. Hmmm...it will be interesting that's for sure.

I'm SOOOOOOOO glad I didn't meet up with you guys on Friday ~ I had that cold and would have felt SOOOOOOOO guilty if you got sick after hanging around me! Whew, some other person infected you. Not that it makes your cold any better, but it make ME feel better!

Pregnant and sick ~ thankfully, I cannot imagine. But soon, both will pass.

Aw, sorry you're sick--don't you get an official Pregnancy Pass on that? But what luscious pictures you've posted for us! Care Bear is rockin' the trifecta, and those are some fantastic gifts. Love the Koigu, and it's PERFECT yarn for Monkey. And the rocker is lovely--may you have many happy, peaceful hours in that spot.
