yep, the peanut is still in utero and it looks like she'll stay there for a bit. my due date is thursday and i have a doctor's appointment then to see how i'm doing. if i'm not progressing, i'll be induced the following wednesday. we'll see! i haven't had one contraction yet! not even braxton hicks. i'm beginning to doubt their existence. regardless, she's coming out somehow and hopefully it'll be soon.
i am glad to report that i am no longer sick! my stuffy nose broke on friday night and now it's just the regular intermittent stuffiness associated with my chronic rhinitis. nothing i can't handle. i am also entirely happy to tell you that i'm on maternity leave! my last day was friday and i think that i might have slightly pissed off my coworkers by looking so happy to go all that afternoon. it felt great to leave my "out of office" assistant on outlook and a temporary greeting on my voicemail that won't expire until august. i've got a great summer ahead of me with the peanut.
i have also been knitting, of course. i'm on a major sock kick right now (possibly inspired by sandra but definitely inspired by the sheer portability of socks) and finished the first monkey sock yesterday while watching law and order repeats on TNT.
i've done a lot of mods to the pattern, namely not following the pattern at all except for the chart, the stitch count, and the 1 inch of twisted rib at the top. the rest is all me. i put on a short row heel (my best short row heel yet! i think that i have this mastered to look pretty darn near commercial.)
and i also did my own thing for the toe.
thankfully i wrote everything down so that i can do the same thing on the second sock, which i've already casted on and am four repeats through the leg! this pattern is really addictive. it's very easy to memorize and a whole repeat gets you through a lot of length so you actually feel like you're getting somewhere. i love it. i also am loving the koigu. look! no pooling!
this is not a color i would have chosen for myself which is why i love it all the more. it was a gift from sandra for my 30th birthday and she did a great thing by choosing a colorway that i don't use often. this is another reason why i love having friends who are knitters. there's more i can say about this sock, but i'll save it for my finished pair.
i made a couple of recent stash additions knowing that i'm going to be house bound for a while (also knowing that sock yarn is totally allowed in the KFYS 2007 rules.)
- i bought two skeins of lorna's lace shepard sock in berry at the point on friday. after hearing grumperina lust after this yarn for so long, how could i resist?
- i also took some of this lovely wheat colored knitpicks essential yarn off of veronique's hands. i'm going to make another pair of socks for KP out of it... of my own design! i spotted a stitch pattern that is very KP in the stitch calendar. hopefully i can work on them soon.
then, out of the blue, i got a very lovely gift from my pal brooke over at the daily purl! she sent along a very cute hat (sorry, i totally spaced on taking the picture today! hopefully i can get around to it tomorrow and update this post) for the peanut and some sock yarn for moi.
- i'm so lucky that brooke wanted to part with some of her sundara sock yarn. this is the cala lily colorway from the petals collection. so pretty!
- then she sent along a bonus skein of very bright and red and german sock yarn. i love it!
i also went a little overboard today and bought some more sock yarn from dani at sunshine yarns. i was bad. i know it and i promise to knit lots of socks as penance. heh.
other than all of that, i'm just waiting on the peanut and nesting. i cleaned out the entire fridge today and took a walk, carrying groceries back up 4 flights of stairs when i got home. i'm trying to speed this whole birth thing along but my guess is that the peanut's happy where she is. i'm sure it's warm and cozy in there. let's hope that she gets tired of it soon!
