believe it or not, i have had time to knit but almost no time to blog. you see, i really need my faculties in order to write up a post. i can't just jump on and whip up a quickie to keep you all in the loop. that's not my style. so the blog has sat pretty useless these past few weeks and for that, i apologize.

a quick peanut update: she's sleeping much better these days. after my last blog post, she, of course, bucked all that good sleep in favor of late nights and early mornings but now we're back on track. she's only waking once each night for a feeding and sometimes will sleep as late as 7:30 (but usually she's up between 6:30 and 7:00 which is god awful early as far as i'm concerned.) i'm hoping that with time, she'll sleep later. she goes to bed around 9:00PM so the hubby and i have about an hour and a half each night to enjoy the peace. i usually spend it knitting or returning email.

her gastrointestinal issues are also getting better now that i know what bothers her. i can't eat dairy which sucks big time. i really miss my morning coffee and ice cream. i've also realized that i can't eat chickpeas which is a weird one but they really do give her bad gas. bummer. no hummus for me!

anyway, she's really turning into a full-fledged baby! she bats at things with her hands now and interacts more with her environment. it's pretty amazing.

here she is loving her new mobile.

wow! a mobile!
wow! a mobile!

the giggle ball...

and her gymini.

oops, she looks a little tired in that photo! more in the gallery.

ok, now onto knitting. i've decided to make a mitered square blanket (i can thank cara for this one.) i figured that each square is a small accomplishment in and of itself and gives me something to achieve that's reachable. i got a grab bag of tahki cotton classic on ebay and bought some elann sonata in white as well (these two yarns are almost identical.)

tahki cotton classic

these are the colors i've chosen. originally i wasn't keen on the light purple but now i kind of like it so i'll go with it.

trial mitered squares

my first try with US6 needles was too loose which i find strange. i did knit kyoto last year on US6s with great results. i guess i'm becoming a more relaxed knitter! so these two squares will not be used in the final blanket. i also decided, after looking at these, that i will always use white as the stripes (color B) and the tahki color yarns as my background. should be fun!

these are usable

here are the first two squares i've knit and am going to keep. the stitches are much tighter, as are the decreases. perfect. gonna move onto a new color now so that i don't get totally bored though i'm pretty sure i'm going to knit four squares with each color i have picked out.

i also started a pair of socks for the peanut much like the pair that i made for her in february but now that i'm almost to the toe of the first one, i realize that i should make them bigger for her for the fall. so i'm going to rip out this first one and cast on more stitches.

KP's socks are hibernating. i started them before the peanut was born and now i don't like the pattern that i chose. i'm thinking, actually, about making charade in a man's size for him. whaddya think?

one more thing, ravlery is kicking ass. whenever i have a hand free while feeding the peanut, i'm on there surfing patterns, adding them to my queue. or looking at the yarn in my stash and seeing what other people are making with it. it's really addictive. i have to stop! especially since i have a secret project of my own that i was working on heavily before the peanut was born and now haven't touched in two months. crap. i've gotta get back on it so that i can have it live by the fall. please send good working vibes my way. i need them. i can't seem to concentrate.

The blanket is going to be GREAT! I love your plan and I agree - the purple is necessary. It's the one color that's a little off, but totally fits and you need to shake things up just a bit.

She's getting so big! You're right - she's totally filling out those legs and arms. I can't wait to meet her - hopefully soon.

Great to hear that there's some knitting, and (more importantly) sleeping going on in the house of gleek. Peanut is looking cuter and cuter - great pics

Wow, there's so much going on chez Gleek! The mitered square blanket sounds like a good project for you. It's portable, you only work on a small portion at a time, you can memorize the pattern, and the colors keep it interesting!
Oh, and I agree about Ravelry :)

Well, she's just adorable. I'm glad you're getting things figured out with her. I'm avoiding ravlery - I so don't need another addiction. I like he sock pattern. I think it's a good choice for guy socks.

I'm so glad to hear that the little peanut has turned the corner and is a bonafide baby now, and that you and KP are getting a little peace and quiet.

That sleep schedule really helps with knitting time. :-) I always keep a project in the stroller for walks to the park, heh heh. Have you tried rice milk in your coffee?

I LOVE the colors you chose for your blanket, the purple works, it will pop the other colors, me thinks! I am making babbette, and I wanted colors like yours, but ended up adding greens. Hmmm. Maybe it will be for me instead of the cashew. (Cool!) Where did you get that awesome mobile? The giggle ball looks fun, man, I think we need more toys...your peanut is just adorable!

Great to see something from you! Good luck on the blanket. I love the way that the blanket looks, but all that seaming? Not so much.

i love the picture of the peanut testing out the new mattress. so cute! i think they'll be *just* enough room for her to be comfy. it is for her, is it not?? ;)

i love the look of mitered squares but i don't have the patience to sew all of those squares together and then to weave in the ends?! AHHHH!!!!

ravelry is like crack. my actual knitting has gone down significantly since i've been spending nearly all of my free time poking around on that site. love it!

I always wanted to make that blanket but i never got around to it. Maybe seeing yours will make me get on the bandwagon.

the little peanut is so cute! i'm glad she's sleeping better!

i have also been sucked in after seeing cara's amazing mitered square blanket. i'm going to hopefully start this weekend and work on a few miters in between all my other projects. i am a little afraid of all that sewing together that will happen in the end though. eek!

Glad to hear that Peanut is doing well and that you're sleeping and knitting! The beginnings of the blanket look great--it sounds like a great project with small parts--perfect for your current situation!

And of course: she's so cute! It's amazing to be on this end--only seeing pics every so often . . . she's realy grown!

that's cool that you are figuring out the peanut's gastrointestinal issues. My nephew had those problems too, but thankfully grew out of them. Nice job with the miters, that looks to be a very fun project.

She's growing cuter by the second! I was so distracted by the cuteness I didn't even read about the knitting. Sorry.

Peanut is so cute!

About the milk thing, my 3rd one would throw up whenever I had any dairy, and no thanks to the doctors, figured out that DS was probably allergic to milk. As soon as I cut out dairy, he was fine. I switched to soy. He also had major excema, so bad people would stare, and he would scratch until he bled. I sewed up so many little mittens, had to make them super long and make the elastic tight so he couldn't pull them off. After 1, he had a reaction to eggs. Long story short, and again without the help from my doc, I finally got in to see an allergist when he was 20 months old, and he is allergic to dairy and eggs, and we have to keep him away from nuts, and he recently had a reaction to shrimp. Now that he is 3, we will get him tested again. Oh yeah, his excema is gone, and only comes back if he has food he is allergic to.
All this to say to keep an eye on her, because if she has reactions now, she is likely allergic to dairy, and possibly other things as well. And don't trust soy either, it's also a highly allergenic food.
I totally understand about cutting out foods from your diet, it sucks. I tried to think about the span of time it took compared to the life span of the child.
Good luck!

Hey there...

Babies change can change their routines if they feel like. My son, Max, was doing so well and then we went out to dinner and put him to bed late and everything got thrown off schedule again. I find that if I can put him down earlier, he sleeps later. Makes no sense but it works. Routine. That's what he's all about... but it sounds like your girl is getting sleep. She'll just sleep more and more as she gets older...

Peanut is so cute! I love that mobile you got her.. where did you get it? And I think we have the same play gym! I just got ours today to celebrate Max's 3 month bday and he loves it. I actually got to start a sock today he was so entranced with it.
