well, i quit work. that's my good news. i just couldn't stand coming into the office everyday knowing that my baby was at home without me. it really sucked coming home every night and then having to put her to bed an hour later. she's just never in a good mood in the evenings anyway so that just made it worse. i would want to spend time with her but she'd be all irritable and then would spit-up and not be happy so i'd just have to give her her bath, feed her, and send her to bed. so sad. all of that combined with the fact that my company re-orged my department again and i don't have a career path here anymore. i think that it was a sign. my last day is a week from today. i'll be doing some freelance for them from home for 4 to 6 weeks but otherwise i'm done with the office. i'm happy to say that labor day weekend will be quite nice knowing that i don't have to commute again!

we took the peanut to prospect park this past weekend to meet up with the sassy family. the nut laid on the blanket and stared at the sky and trees and she played with her toys. i got her to laugh and giggle and, on the way home, she took a brief cat nap. it was a very nice day.

she turned 5 months yesterday and is celebrating in high baby fashion by not sleeping well, again. last night she was up every hour and wet her diaper so much that we had to change her at 4AM and she would not go back to sleep. i fed her again (had fed her at midnight) and she finally drifted off to sleep. unfortunately, my alarm went off at 6:50AM and i thought i was going to die. this morning i immediately ordered huggies overnite diapers. i'm hoping they work.

teething?
teething?

i think that she's waking constantly because 1) she's also teething. just check out that wooden ring she is always gnawing on. 2) i feed her so much before bed so that she'll sleep through the night and it just backfires on us because then she is full of more liquid that she can pee out. it's time for solids. i know we're ready.

i went to bed at 9:30PM last night. it's the earliest i've gone to bed in 3 months. it's a good thing i did due to all the wakings last night. i got in at least two good hours of sleep before she started up.

there's been little to no knitting around here. but with me quitting work, doing a little freelancing and taking care of the nut, i suspect i should be able to pick it back up again soon!

speaking of freelancing, i'll be redesigning my company website too before the end of the year with information about my skillset. keep me in mind for any blog related work!

We are trying to get Cashew to get comfy with a blankie. It kinda worked the first night, but we're still so worried about her that instead of letting her fuss it out with the blankie, we wake her up more by checking on her! Good grief. Congrats on quitting your job! Time with your Peanut is precious, indeed.

Congrats on quitting work--what a liberating feeling, and I'm sure the peanut will appreciate it, too! I hope she settles down a bit for you once you're working from home.

With a face like that, I can see why you quit your job. Here's hoping that overnight diapers and a little rice cereal make for a good night's sleep for all of you!

Good for you. I completely understand what that is like. I "changed" jobs recently for that exact reason. I was spending maybe 2 hours a day with my son and I was grumpy and depressed about it. Now I work an abbreviated work day and get to spend way more time with him. It makes a huge difference. I have noticed a change in his behavior along with mine!!

And is your peanut ever cute!!!!

I am sooo happy for you!! I've been at home with mine so long I couldn't iamgine your pain leaving her everyday. I wish you luck on your freelance work. I think you have a pretty solid relationship around blogland so I'm sure we'll all keep a look out for you. Congrats again.

Congrats on quitting!! That's great that you get to stay at home with the peanut. Someone was home with Monkey for the first 6 months of her life, then she was in daycare for 6 months, and then I moved back here to NY, where I only work twice a week and get to stay home with her the rest of the week. Yeah, from someone who's been on both sides, it's def better to actually be there while they grow. Staying home is a lot harder in many ways (the isolation, making an effort to get out of the house and socialize with others about something other than poopy diapers, etc.), but it's SO worth it.

Have you been taking her to any of the singalongs out in the Slope? Perch and Tea Lounge are where I lived when I first got here. It's a good way to meet other mommas.

Oh, yay! I was hoping you would say this soon. That's wonderful news. Your little babe is so darling. The teething is no fun, but starting solids is! A new source of entertainment for everyone. And since my own Nut is now really a toddler, I can tell you that it does get easier, and soon. That first year went by so fast, and now she's running around and laughing and kissing and hugging and all the adorable things she does. Don't blink too long; you'll soon be there. xoxo

Hi there, I'm delurking to say congrats. I'm not a mother yet, but I'm sure this was one of the more difficult decisions you've had to make. It sounds like the right one. It must be so hard to be away from your little one. Keep knitting!

just a suggestion, have you tried pampers? we have been through huggies and others with the twins and right now pampers win hands down. we leave them in them 11 to 6 and rarely have to change them in that period of time. and those dipes are full in the morning but they do not feel wet at all. it sounds like your decision for work has made you feel really good...congrats on being a sahm.

so, so happy for you. i don't know how people do it -- stay up all night, work all day. i'm really responsible for no one, and i'm exhausted and stressed all the time. and i'm sure the peanut will start sleeping more any day now ...

Good for you. It is great to be able to stay home and still have some projects going on at the same time.

As for the diapers, I always found that when they were leaking at night I would move up to the next size.(just for nighttime).

Good luck with everything!

If there is one thing I've learned in this whole parenting thing, it's that you've got to do what is right for you and your family! That's a different thing for every situation, but I'm glad that you are doing what's right for you and the peanut! Sorry it took me so long to comment, I've been reading blogs on my treo during middle of the night feedings. :-)

Congrats! Someone said up there but you only get this one time to raise peanut. I made this decision to stay home and I don't regret it one bit. It's the best thing I've ever decided to do. I think you feel the same. :) And you are going to freelance from home, that's awesome! I'm still trying to figure out how to work from home but first I have to find time to do that. :)

Max has been waking up every two hours for the last few weeks. I feel your pain. It's the teeth. They have messed up everything! I bet peanut is teething, keep an eye out because I had no idea Max was and then BAM! He had two teeth! She maybe ready for solids, have you tried making a fruit puree for her? We did peaches for Max and he loved it! It also helped with his poop issues. Can't wait to read what Peanut eats next.

Good luck with with work (or lack of it) - I'm sure its the way to do things if that's what you want and you can, everyone I know who has quit work for a bit when their baby's little has said it was completely worth it.
