well, the christening was yesterday and i'm so glad that's over and done with. you know, some babies are totally resilient. they can handle all situations, anything that you might throw at them. not the peanut. she needs her two naps per day and early bedtime or else she's very very unhappy... like hysterical unhappy. i really don't think that we'll be able to do much with her until after she's a year old. i just can't take the heartache of her crying for hours on end.

getting her hair wet
getting her hair wet

so the funny thing was that we were in the church and peanut was doing really great. she was quiet and happy even when the deacon would lay his hands on her head. she didn't even cry when we poured water on her! but then the deacon put the oil on her head and she lost it. cried and cried and didn't stop for the rest of the ceremony. in fact, didn't stop until i had brought her out to the car and fed her.

cute but very upset
cute but very upset

she looked great in her christening gown. i had to take it off of her right after the ceremony though. it was big to begin with. i definitely misjudged her size. in the beginning of the day, it would have fit a one year old. by the end of the day, it would have fit a five year old!

the yoke
the yoke

more blocking pics here. the thing grew exponentially while she wore it. so now what to do? i'm thinking about ripping out the yoke and re-knitting the raglan shaping to be longer and tighter (ie. less stitches). thread in some waste yarn and cut? thoughts? i want her to wear this again after i dye it. there's no way that i knit the whole thing for her to wear it only once!

baby shoes
baby shoes

oh and i made these adorable little baby shoes for her using a cloth shoe tutorial that i found via sew, mama, sew! (thanks kaitlyn!) i changed the pattern pieces to be a 6-12 month size and i just need to tweak it a little more and make another pair before i can make that size available to everyone else! these shoes were SO easy to make. i did it in a day between naps and being a mommy so anyone else could probably do it in a few hours.

mmmm bread
mmmm bread

i also made that no-knead bread that everyone's been raving about for the past year and it's totally worth raving about! my subs: 1 cup of semolina flour and 2 cups all-purpose; 1/2 tsp rapid rise yeast and heated the water to 120°F; used sesame seeds instead of corn meal. delicious! the only thing that i'll do differently the next time around is to use A LOT more flour on the cotton towels. getting that sticky bread off the towels was a bit of a nightmare.

a feast!
a feast!

KP and i stayed home for thanksgiving this year. we didn't want to travel seeing as we had the christening yesterday. KP made roasted breast of seitan turkey (from the nutritional yeast cookbook) and it was SO GOOD! the gravy really makes it awesome. also had mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and a special bottle of chateau st jean 2002 cabernet franc that we picked up in sonoma last year. no dessert, can you believe it? i indulged with a red velvet cupcake from the point on friday when i knit with the spiders. KP was good enough to stay home and watch the peanut so that i could get out. it was nice!

in other news, my days of freelancing at home for my previous employer are over! after this week i'll be taking orders from people who need blog work done or websites built. if you're interested in acquiring my services, please get a hold of me through my contact form. thanks!

Peanut looks adorable in her gown. Great job!
I love the shoes, too.

Glad to hear you had a relaxing Thanksgiving.
Hey, we should really get together again - maybe take the girls out to a museum or something? They can sleep in their strollers (at least, Monkey usually does. She gets bored looking at art. haha.)

You mean, you don't want to wait until Peanut is 5 so she can wear the dress again? I think your solution of re-knitting the yoke sounds perfect. The dress looks marvelous in the pictures, pre-stretching :) What color do you think you'll dye it?
(By the way, your "contact form" link doesn't work).

the christening gown turned out beautifully. re-knitting the yoke is probably your best bet, but the cutting, oh, the just the idea of cutting all that work freaks me out. the waste yarn will save you, i know. still, knitting and scissors *shivers*, yikes!

Aww, poor Peanut. Who wants oil on their head? Nobody!

That is some gorgeous knitting, though.

Sorry to hear that the peanut had a meltdown at the Christening. She won't be the first or the last baby to have done that though! Not sure what to suggest on the gown...

The bread sounds delicious - I may have to give this a shot. I've always been pretty intimidated by bread, but this sounds like a good starter loaf.

She looks so cute! I feel you on the unhappy baby thing. The girl twin screamed her head off at the Doc last Monday even the boy twin looked like he was wondering what the hell her problem was.

I have zero advice for the gown unfortunately, although I know their is no way in hell I could cut something that cute.

steph, you did a great job on the dress. i think the peanut looked lovely, even with a few tears on her face. hope you have a great holiday season, and, yep, be grateful she is not a mover and shaker yet, once they start they just do not stop. owen is now trying to stand without help and mace is almost crawling. ahhh. help!

Oh, poor sweet Peanut! I would have cried if someone poured oil on my face too--I'm sure she was just worried about her complexion!
But she looks absolutely darling--the dress is gorgeous--bravo! :)

Congrats on the Christening! What a cutie pie.

Be glad you don't have one of those all weather babies. People just like to rain on your sunshine by telling you how awful the "twos" will be, or how you will suffer with the next one.

That dress looks fantastic! I say don't dye it or cut it, save it for when she's 5. That way you are ahead with all your Peanut knitting. HAHAHHAHAHA! Sorry I've been out of touch, life has been a little crazy lately and we still haven't moved. (Ack.)

poor poor peanut! at least YOU'RE smiling though - if only for the camera and the crowds ;-) the gown is beautiful. i don't think you should dye it - it's an heirloom! (for a five-year old maybe. . . isn't there another church ceremony somewhere down the road?)

Aw, Peanut. At least she was adorable while she was squalling away! Maybe instead of ripping out the yoke you could just pick up sts around it and work upwards? It looks like it wound up pretty scoopy, considering that babies hardly have any shoulders, and it would get you the extra raglan length, right?

that is such a beautiful christening gown! i'm sorry that she was so sad, and i'm especially sorry that it stretched out! um, can you dye it and save it for her to wear when she's older?

The gown turned out beautifully! Annoying that it grew though. I tend to knit very tightly, especially when knitting with cotton or silk. It's so disappointing when you take a lot of time to knit something and it changes on you in unexpected ways. I hope you find a solution to the growth. And if not, at least Peanut will have a lovely dress to wear when she's a toddler.

Happy Day, peanut! Happy Day, mama! The gown turned out so lovely. I love to think ahead to when she is grown up and she pulls it out of a trunk somewhere to show what her mother made for her christening. oxo

She look so cute in that gown! I like the idea of reknitting part of it so that it fits her better. Someday, when she's older, she will completely love and appreciate that you made that for her.

By the way, I totally want to EAT that no-knead bread. Mmm.

poor peanut! must have been misery. at least now it's all over. :)

gorgeous gown, tho. i don't have any suggestion for you other than to wait till peanut is six or so and have her wear it then. :P

i heart brussel sprouts so much. if someone gave me a plate with just a heaping full of brussel sprouts for dinner i'd be a hapy camper.

Phew, sounds like you and the Peanut are both relieved that it's all over. The gown looks wonderful - such a shame about the growing part though, hope the reknit fixes it.

Nice bread! I'll have to give that one a try. I'm glad the christening is over, though that stinks about the gown. Is it wool? Would you be scared to throw it in the dryer for 5 min? It might save you the trouble of re-knitting so much.

How wonderful! I love the booties. I also like the Very Veggie Thanksgiving. I don't like turkey at all.
