well, the christening was yesterday and i'm so glad that's over and done with. you know, some babies are totally resilient. they can handle all situations, anything that you might throw at them. not the peanut. she needs her two naps per day and early bedtime or else she's very very unhappy... like hysterical unhappy. i really don't think that we'll be able to do much with her until after she's a year old. i just can't take the heartache of her crying for hours on end.
so the funny thing was that we were in the church and peanut was doing really great. she was quiet and happy even when the deacon would lay his hands on her head. she didn't even cry when we poured water on her! but then the deacon put the oil on her head and she lost it. cried and cried and didn't stop for the rest of the ceremony. in fact, didn't stop until i had brought her out to the car and fed her.
she looked great in her christening gown. i had to take it off of her right after the ceremony though. it was big to begin with. i definitely misjudged her size. in the beginning of the day, it would have fit a one year old. by the end of the day, it would have fit a five year old!
more blocking pics here. the thing grew exponentially while she wore it. so now what to do? i'm thinking about ripping out the yoke and re-knitting the raglan shaping to be longer and tighter (ie. less stitches). thread in some waste yarn and cut? thoughts? i want her to wear this again after i dye it. there's no way that i knit the whole thing for her to wear it only once!
oh and i made these adorable little baby shoes for her using a cloth shoe tutorial that i found via sew, mama, sew! (thanks kaitlyn!) i changed the pattern pieces to be a 6-12 month size and i just need to tweak it a little more and make another pair before i can make that size available to everyone else! these shoes were SO easy to make. i did it in a day between naps and being a mommy so anyone else could probably do it in a few hours.
i also made that no-knead bread that everyone's been raving about for the past year and it's totally worth raving about! my subs: 1 cup of semolina flour and 2 cups all-purpose; 1/2 tsp rapid rise yeast and heated the water to 120°F; used sesame seeds instead of corn meal. delicious! the only thing that i'll do differently the next time around is to use A LOT more flour on the cotton towels. getting that sticky bread off the towels was a bit of a nightmare.
KP and i stayed home for thanksgiving this year. we didn't want to travel seeing as we had the christening yesterday. KP made roasted breast of seitan turkey (from the nutritional yeast cookbook) and it was SO GOOD! the gravy really makes it awesome. also had mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and a special bottle of chateau st jean 2002 cabernet franc that we picked up in sonoma last year. no dessert, can you believe it? i indulged with a red velvet cupcake from the point on friday when i knit with the spiders. KP was good enough to stay home and watch the peanut so that i could get out. it was nice!
in other news, my days of freelancing at home for my previous employer are over! after this week i'll be taking orders from people who need blog work done or websites built. if you're interested in acquiring my services, please get a hold of me through my contact form. thanks!
