i hope you like the pictures because i lost about 10 pounds sweating my ass off while getting them. that and the peanut kept attacking the camera on the tripod. i nearly knocked her over trying to get the camera from her when she grabbed it. she wasn't happy about that but i saved the moment with some goldfish as any good mommy would.

anyway, sorry for the long silence! i've been all-popknits-all-the-time with a little knitting and TV. i've been updating regularly on flickr and twitter though if you're wondering what i'm up to in between posts!

all done!

so here they are! (on ravelry) to recap, one sock was made for me by nancy for the spiders one-sock swap we had back in february. she did an excellent job with picking this pattern for me. it's my first toe-up sock and i loved it and the construction of it. it had a tubular BO which i had never done, and just enough lace to keep things interesting.

everything was going great until the end. i tried the tubular BO that techknitter recommends, and through no fault of techknitter's, it sucked. my grafting is crap and way too tight which is why i never use it. i suppose i should practice and make it better but who has time for that?

so i picked out the tubular BO and tried a new one that also didn't work. i ended up using this BO that grumperina explains on her blog. it took me more than 4 hours to bind off!!! cripes!

anyway, they are done and that's all that matters. on to new knits!

i hope to come back with something new to show you next week. we'll see.

the things we do for our knits. and the camera part cracked me up. sometimes i think i would choose it over a bean if there was jeopardy...um, just kidding. love the socks, and it goes to show what a great knitter that you are...all those bind off would have killed me.

Great socks! And bless you for putting them on in this heat. That's the sacrifice of a true knit blogger :)

really nice yarn and pattern match. I got annoyed with tubular BO, for toe-ups now I just do a sewen bind-off, or a knit2tog one if I'm feeling lazy.

Those are very cool! And, our little monster is obsessed with the camera so I'm amazed that you got those pictures taken in the presence of the peanut!

They're beautiful! And I totally feel you on the photo shoot - I tried to get sweater pics earlier this week and I just gave up because I was sweating my face off.

Hurray! They look great! I'm so glad you enjoyed the pattern.

The tubular bind off is kind of a pain. I used the instructions here: http://www.savannahchik.com/2006/11/tubular_bindoff.htm
It did take a lot longer than the regular sewn bind-off, but I liked the end result.

great socks! You certainly are dedicated to be putting those things on in the heat! I tried running at prospect park yesterday and I almost threw up--too hot!

The lengths we go to for our craft ;)! The socks are so pretty, and I love the idea of doing a single sock swap - that's just genius!

The tubular bind off is my new best friend - you'll see it recommended for my popknits pattern! Time-consuming, yes, but so pretty and stretchy. I used Montse Stanley's directions, and once I wrapped my head around that tricksy maneuver d, I was off and running. Love your socks, though! I'm off to Ravelry to find out what that tasty yarn is.

Such pretty socks, totally worth the hours of effort. And the pics are worth the sweating in the park - great job!

ha ha, too bad there's not a photo of her attacking the camera and you diving to save it. The socks are lovely. The subtle color shading complements the stitch pattern very nicely.
