vincent’s crazy.. but we knew that already

before we get to the sock questions, i’m going to do a little TV talk. it’s been a good week for TV already! i’m excited for tomorrow’s battlestar galactica premiere. from what i’ve heard, the writers are up to their old magic again: making humanity’s future bleak and full of despair. i can’t wait! if you’re into the whole spoiler thing, you can watch the whole first act of tomorrow’s episode on scifi pulse. see ron moore’s blog for more info.

now, regarding the title of this post, if you watch project runway, you probably saw last night’s reunion episode. it was sort of a bore except for the funny outtakes and watching keith and jeffrey be jerks. but what’s up with vincent? the man has anger management issues and a seriously unbalanced mind. what’s worse is that he spent a good 5 minutes bashing the other designers and then claimed “it’s my opinion and i’m sticking by it.” lame way to get out of actually defending your untoward comments, but whatever. then i head over to the bravotv.com website today and see a video where vincent trashes all blogs and “blogspots” (i can only think that he means bloggingprojectrunway.blogspot.com because “blogspots” is not a real internet term) saying that the opinions of its writers are worthless and that they are all probably child molesters (i kid you not. go watch the video for yourself. he’s obviously delusional. thank you laura.) well, i’m here to say that, yes, vincent i didn’t like you before but now i can’t stand to see one more picture of you EVER. i have an opinion. i’m not a child molester. start acting your age for goodness sake! educate yourself and stop slamming other people. you’ll get nowhere in life by building up so much bad karma. remember that what goes around comes around.

mmmm, jack!

now, on to LOST!! just when i thought this show couldn’t possibly offer anything new or had maybe jumped the shark, POW! the “others” are not what they seemed. where did those houses come from that they live in? plumbing? ovens? reading groups? the first ten minutes of the show could have taken place in middle america! amazing! i totally didn’t expect it and i love when something happens on a show that i wasn’t expecting. i now look back on the middle of season 2 and realize that all the mundane, everyday events that happened where there to mull us into a little complacency. those cheeky writers! i’m seriously impressed.

hello socktoberfest! lolly suggested that we share our sock history with our readers to kick off the month of socks.

When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?

my first major project ever was socks! i decided to learn to knit by taking a class at FIT and during the class i made a hat (which i have since frogged and used the yarn for the zigzag scarf) and started a pair of koigu socks. boy was i am ambitious! i had no idea how to use DPNs much less knit in the round.

What was your first pair? How have they “held up” over time?

the koigu socks have held up ok over time though they became seriously slouchy after two or three wearings. i have since learned that 74 stitches for a sock is too big for me.

koigu socks

What would you have done differently?

i realized that i hate DPNs and since have switched to the two circular needles method. i would have made the socks smaller and the leg longer.

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?

koigu, brooklyn handspun, and sweet georgia are my favorites so far. but i haven’t made many socks yet and i have plenty of yarn in the stash!

Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?

two circulars. magic loop is cool but would require me having to buy longer addis. a long time ago, i found a great deal on ebay on 24″ circular addis and bought two of each size between 00 and 3. no need to switch now!

Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)

i prefer short-row now that i’ve figured out the trick to it. i hate picking up stitches so the flap is out for the time being.

How many pairs have you made?

only 6 pairs and i had to look at my completed projects pages (2005 & 2006) to remind myself! the koigus, socks for mom, jaywalkers, embossed leaves socks, sockapalooza socks, and KP’s socks. i’m working on my angel pair right now! and i have more in the queue, of course.

wow, i really need to get crackin’ on some socks!

Indeed, the reunion was a bit of a snore. I’d prefer they just get on with the runway shows of the final four!

I was blown away by the first 5-10 minutes of Lost last night. Just when I thought they couldn’t surprise me anymore, they did.

i haven’t watched the lost ep yet (just finished the last season 2 dvd last night!) so I skipped over that part, but re: Vincent, I got the impression that he thinks “blogspot” is an appropriate way to refer to a “blog.” Oy.

I only watched about half of the reunion show before I stopped it and went to bed, will have to watch the rest tonight. ;)

Oh, and the part where Vincent yells at a producer for washing his shirt!! Hilarious! I couldn’t agree with you more. Another surprise was the number of times the models felt faint. EAT!

And I just realize I completely forgot to watch Lost. Maybe I’ll download it from iTunes…

Lost was crazy good last night, wasn’t it?! I totally thought those first 10 minutes were taking place in the outside world (thought Juliet was Desmond’s Penny). Can’t wait to see what happens this season!

what is WRONG with vincent? i noticed last night that he kept talking about “blogspots” and wondered what was wrong with him. the fact that he was going to quit because his shirt were fluffed — insane. and i couldn’t follow his rant about all of the “amateurs.” dude, his final design was as amateurish as they come.

VIncent is such a weirdo – he did add a nice element of craziness to the show though…

    Great sock story! :)

OMG – Lost! I am completely with you. I’m more confused now than I’ve been since the start of the stupid show. I guess that’s why I love it so much. Jeeze. I didn’t watch the PR reunion because it was on at the same time as Lost in my time zone. Choices, ya know. Anyway, I’m glad I didn’t miss much. Love the sock answers.

Vincent, Vincent. Can’t stand him. Sigh. And even more so after that reunion show. I have no words. The “It gets me off” comment just destroys me–and in a bad way.
