{spend time idly}

what to watch?

so i’m just back from a good drilling at the dentist and in a FANTASTIC mood and thought that i would write a blog entry. thankfully for all of you, i will be writing it over the next few days for a wednesday post and you will be spared most of my bitching.

i’ve been obsessed with finding “new” and interesting TV lately what with the writer’s strike still going on (COME ON!! i’m sick of reality TV!) everyone who knows me knows that i despise all reality TV but project runway. i’m so glad it’s back on the air! i was actually sorry to see elisa go last week. she had really grown on me. it’s too bad that the challenge itself was such a snoozer. god, can we get a little more creative please? pour on the pressure, apply the heat! i wanna see these designers sweat!

project runway canada

in an effort to get more project runway into my veins, i started (and finished!) watching project runway canada (don’t click on the link unless you want to know who won!) which is the greatest thing since sliced bread. i’ve gotta be honest here. i actually LOVE iman and brian baley more than heidi and tim. iman is amazing as a host. she really has strong opinions and i totally agreed with her on every decision. she also strikes me as being very sweet and caring.

brian baley, the mentor, was great too. he actually MENTORED. he had opinions and real words of advice for the designers. where i feel that tim gunn has pulled back from giving helpful commentary (maybe at the behest of the producers?) brian would come out and tell them what he thought was wrong (or right) with a garment and steer the designer in the right direction. mustache aside, i really adored him. i can’t wait for the second season! too bad that it’s not available in the US. watch it on youtube. trust me, you won’t be sorry you did.

amongst all the PRC watching i was knitting on koolhaas finished koolhaas. this took me FOREVER to finish but it’s because i was really only able to fit in a few rows here and there amongst all the other things.

i made it large so that it would fit my dad. if it’s a little too big, he can flip up the ribbing. looks great right? uuuuhhh, what’s that? let’s zoom in…

ooooooops! forgot to cross one there! oh well, it still looks ok, i think! oh, and i got my new gorillapod. combined with the new camera, i expect my FO pics to be much better.

i also got to do a little sewing this past weekend. i whipped up two new pairs of cloth shoes for the peanut. these will be the last that i make seeing as she’ll probably be crawling and walking sometime in the next 4 months.

i followed the tutorial again but used my pattern for making 6 to 12 month sizes. (i’ll post this on the patterns page soon.) feel free to download this PDF and make your own as well. notice that i didn’t exactly make right and left foot shoes. seriously, you don’t need them.

anyway, all in all, peanut has 4 pairs now. i made three of them and the fourth (top left) comes from kaya’s kloset etsy store. if you don’t want to make your own baby shoes then i highly recommend you get her to make them for you. she does great work.

i leave you with a picture of some highly yummy “mac daddy” from the veganomicon (which i got KP for christmas.)

yum!

and the nut’s new teeth! so cute i could die.

Project Runway Canada is awesome! I should tell you, we also have Canadian Idol and Canada’s Next Top Model here, both of which are really cheesy and, well, Canadian (this last point is one that is universally understood by anyone who grew up with Canadian TV, but really hard to explain to Americans). But Project Runway is great. The quality is as good as the American one and the designers are all pretty cool. They’re showing the latest American Project Runway here now, so I don’t know when they’ll start a new season, but I’ll let you know when they do and you can start YouTubing!

Those shoes are to die for. I have a little fabric stashed away and those would make a great gift for my friend.

The gorilla tripods are super. When my tripod bites the dust (I really hope it never does!) that’s the one I would replace it with.

OMG! Thanks for reminding me about PR Canada! I stopped after the umbrella challenge and got so busy I forgot about it! Funny, though, because Iman kind of annoys me. I’m not sure what it is, but it might be her voice for me.

anyways, that’s for the cloth shoe link! I’m all over that! Now to find some bonded fleece!

cool koolhaus, that is next up on my needles. i am so into accessory knitting right now. i also love the slippers, but i would need to find a non slip sole for the beans. any ideas for a good fabric/material? not that they will wear shoes long. they remove their robees almost as soon as they go on. california boys. i should just train them to wear flip flops. kisses to the nut.

How strange to see somebody lamenting that a Canadian TV show isn’t available in the States! It’s a bizarro-complaint!

I am *loving* those little cloth shoes. And the teeth!

I am sure that I’ve seen these shoes before but this was particularly timely as I’m having problems finding shoes for the kiddo (and it makes me crazy when he doesn’t wear shoes to school…yes I’m a bit of a crazy mom in that respect). Do these stay on okay? His new favorite thing is to try to get his socks off. Anyway, THANKS for info! Now I have a weekend project and an excuse to get the sewing machine out again!

Yay for shoes that stay on! My peanut is into pulling off her sneakers (esp. with velcro) and socks and having cold bare feet. So when we’re indoors it’s Robeez all the way. We call them her slippers. But now I can try making my own, yay! Teeth, so sweet.

I just watched PRC, too, and loved it. I got into the designers personalities so much more than the current PR season’s. And I was so happy with the winner’s collection! Have you heard of Project Catwalk? It’s the British version. They just started season 3. There’s even a PC group on Ravelry. If you find it, I put up a yahoo link to the (seasons 1 and 2) shows. (Sorry, I’m posting from work, which is all Ravelry-and-YouTube-filtered, boo.)

Those shoes are adorable!! And those teeth!!! Wow! Ok, you’ve convinced me to try Project Runway Canada… I’ll watch it while BK watches all that crap TV he likes.

Ahh, I love those little teeth! So cute!

I like your koolhaas–it’s one pattern that looks good, no matter the yarn. I’m sure he’s gonna love it.

I am IN LOVE with those shoes! You’re such a good mama! Did you use the bonded fleece that she talks about for the sole? Does it work well? I’m really going to have to make some of these for the baby on the way!

had some questions about the shoes, so i thought that i should comment. i did not use bonded fleece. i have no idea where i would find it without a car and a fabric store nearby! on one pair of shoes, i used two layers of cotton fabric plus interfacing for the soles. on the other two new pairs featured here, i used old sweatshirt material. i always put socks on the peanut and then these on over them, so it’s not like i worry about her feet getting cold. that and she’s not walking yet (or crawling for that matter) so her feet aren’t touching the ground.

if you want to make them slip-proof, check out my del.icio.us links in the sidebar. i recently found a tutorial on making slip-proof soles.

I can’t believe you pointed out the one mistake in Koolhaus, you nut!

Like anyone would have EVER noticed. :)

Look at all those projects – you’ve been busy! Lovely fabrics.

I’m actually ambivilant about the writer’s strike; IMHO, most of the TV writing in the past year or so has been atrocious over all. I don’t know if standards have dropped or the writers are just terrible, but hopefully a nice shake up will convince writers they really aren’t as vital as they think they are, especially if they keep producing so far under par. Yea for reruns (none of which I’ve seen, due to school) and movies.
