a while back, one of my favorite blog pals kim announced that she was pregnant! the story here is that her blog was one of the first blogs that i have ever read. when i first started taking japanese as a second language, i was enamoured of all things japan-related (i still am) and i wanted to see what it would be like to live in japan as a foreigner. i came across her blog and immediately fell in love. kim and her then-boyfriend-now-husband matt were living in tokyo and basically doing all the things that i wish KP and i could be doing, but hey, we live in new york (and probably there are people out there that fantasize about doing what i do everyday but i rarely think about that.. well, almost rarely.) through kim i found kat and everyday i had my fix of all things japanese. kat got me into knitting and now my blog is full of it! it’s sort of funny to sit back and think about the evolution of my blog and realize that it all started because i found 35degrees and a freelance client who really wanted a blog of their own.
now kim and her hubby are living back in melbourne after leaving japan and a penniless (but fun) life behind. they’ve become extremely adult-like, bought a house, and are now getting ready to pop out a munchkin. i couldn’t be happier for them! in honor of a new mini-mcg entering the universe, i’ve knitted up a little gift which will be posted before the end of the week. just a set of baby booties and a little cap to keep those tiny feet and (hopefully) tiny head warm when australia heads into autumn in april.

patterns: the umbilical cord baby hat from stitch ‘n bitch & one hour baby booties from stitch ‘n bitch nation
yarn: debbie bliss cashmerino chunky
needles: booties – size 9 straights, hat – size 10 denise circulars
i changed the baby booties pattern to be taller by repeating the short rows pattern that makes the top so that i wouldn’t have to put a button on them. i’m hoping that they fit! they’re so small! but kaitlyn did the same thing and hers fit the gifted baby with no problem.
in other blog news: i’ve finally updated the reading site with my harry potter review. i finished the book over a week ago but have been too busy putting together www.spidersknit.org to post about it. i also fixed the RSS feed. sorry about that! there was a nested CDATA tag in there that was mucking things up. my apologies.
