having a stitchy sticky summer

well, it’s a long weekend (at least for me, i decided to take today off from work so that i could upgrade my computer to tiger) and it was well spent. on saturday, the spiders were all in brooklyn (minus joy and amanda) to swap yarn at kaitlyn’s stitchy sticky summer yarn swap. kaitlyn doesn’t live that far from me so i walked over there with a large bag of yarn and some wine. the day was bright and beautiful but not too hot. perfect for some outdoor fun in the shade. sandra, lisa, katie, sarah, abby, and valentina were among the girls that i already knew. there were some new faces as well that i have already forgotten the names to (help!) kaitlyn has just updated me with thos names.. the lovely girls who showed up at the party were sarah and mary.

we had fun putting yarn on joey.

we documented the stash.

we showed off our new yarn!

we fondled all the yarn.

see the gallery for more photos! all that yarn completely went to my head! lisa and i left around 6:30PM and met up with KP at barnes & noble so that we could get the newest vogueknitting and interweave knits magazines. the rest of the weekend i spent hanging with KP because he’s back in milwaukee now working. i finished up the second sock!!

and started a new one skein wonder

this is possibly THE most luscious yarn i have ever knit with (and that’s not a stretch of the imagination because i haven’t been knitting for long!) so smooth. it’s like buttah’. i’ll be updating backpack once it’s back up from maintenance with my crafty status. in the meantime, enjoy the gallery.

finished the unfinishable

YES! i finally finished my very first sock (still have to make another one!) it looks pretty good. i’m not entirely happy with the length of the tube.. it probably could have used 10 more rows but i was afraid of the yarn running out. in the end, there was plenty left. at least i know for the future! i took a copiuous amount of notes on how i did everything so that i can duplicate it for the second sock. i also re-wrote the pattern to fit my foot and correct a few mistakes that it had. i was wondering if i should start a repository of tried-and-true patterns? i put this sock pattern in a nicely formatted word document that could be printed and used on-the-go. any takers? let me know if it’s something anyone would be interested in. i put in a ton of footnotes on where i got the patterns to begin with so that any copyrights wouldn’t be violated. hmmmm, anyway, the sock is below!

sock sock sock!

i’m going to cast-on clapotis next before moving on to my second sock. the second sock will be great to work on at the beach this summer since it’s small and easy to carry around.

fit nyc knitting class #2

i’ve been reading a lot of this fish needs a bicycle lately. i’m completely sucked into the world of H and i don’t even know her. i’m about a year behind at this point and catching up to present time quickly.. but i have been really impressed with the fact that H writes on her blog almost everyday! how do you all do it? my guess is that faithful bloggers are people who have always kept journals and were used to writing everyday. i never kept a journal. first of all, i never want to read about my follies years after they occur. second, a journal is supposed to be extremely private and i always worried about someone else reading it. i figured it was better to go without rather than take the risk. strange huh? so you can really only expect me to update this site once or twice a week and, if it’s more, it’s a miracle.

i had my second knitting class on thursday evening where we learned how to cast on to more than one needle and knit in the round using double-pointed needles (dpns). i also learned decreases (ssk) so that i could finish off my hat (which i did last night).

new hat

i also wanted to show you ipod cozy v.2.0. this is a much better design than my last one. the built-in ties are better for securing the ipod and the acrylic yarn is more durable.. plus i love this plum color! (i better, as i have 3 pounds of it!)

i have the day off today because of president’s day so i’m updating my galleries with pictures from the last blizzard and my latest crafting ventures. i’ll also be updating my reading site since i finished mansfield park on my way out to a baby shower in jersey yesterday.
