slinky garter stitch wrap Category

two days in a row!

be still my beating heart… i’m actually posting to this blog two days in a row! but it’s a quickie.

here’s the slinky garter stitch wrap!

yarn: blue heron yarns, rayon/metallic, 550yds, color: hibiscus

needles: size US19 needles

pattern: none, just garter stitch

i loved working on this! the wrap, if you can’t guess, is over 6ft long and i could have made it longer but stopped because it just seemed like the right length. this was so simple but produced such dramatic results. a lot of that has to do with the yarn though. i got really lucky! i actually used a gift certificate that colleen gave me months ago for helping her out with her website redesign so i owe a little to her on this as well! thanks colleen!

because i couldn’t go to maryland with all you fabulous knitters, i decided to treat myself to a little yarn. i WAS on a yarn diet (diets are meant to be broken, right?) and now i’m back on it again after this purchase. i was lucky (again) to happen upon sweetgeorgia’s yarn shop right after her DNS updated after switching to a new server so i bought myself a little..

check out this closeup.. so pretty! i’m going to do some toe-up socks with the sock yarn and a birch with the candy floss… but i really have to concentrate on my summer knits first!

anyway, here are a few things came across my notice this week.

a lucky day at the courthouse

yesterday, i finally served my jury duty like the good citizen that i am. remember when i was complaining about it back in january and then i ended up postponing it? yep, those few months really flew and the summons hit my mailbox again a few weeks ago. my suggestion to anyone who gets served is to postpone it and then give the date to be called again for a monday. i don’t think that people like to schedule their court dates for mondays so there’s bound to be a small case load, at least that’s how it was for me.

of course, it was raining and windy over in downtown brooklyn and i was stuck with the wimpiest umbrella around. it snapped in half and got blown inside out the minute i stepped out of the station. piece of crap. then i went to the wrong courthouse and had to walk an extra three blocks in the sideways rain. i got to court soaking wet and sweating and generally grumpy. not happy!! but the rest of the day went smoothly. i casted on for green gables the friday before (but then i screwed up the lace on sunday night and ripped and re-casted back on again) and had it with me along with a good book and something to eat so once i was dry, i was happily relaxing in the comfy juror chairs.

the courthouse at 320 jay street is brand new according to KP and it showed. the chairs were black fake leather and comfortable, comfortable enough to sleep in as demonstrated by several potential jurors throughout the day. they had a nice lounge area with tons of stuff in the vending machines. i knit almost the entire time while listening to my ipod turned on way low. everytime they got on the loudspeaker to call new jurors, i put away all of my belongings figuring it would be my time to be called but each time i was not. after lunch, i sat there again and read and then at 3:45 they dismissed us all due to a small case load for the day! i don’t have to go back for SIX years!

i got a lot done on my green gable.

i’ve been following the KAL which i’m a member of and now i have serious questions about a few items.

two socks and i’m done

the socks are done! today i go to get a little extra something special to put in the package before i ship it off to my pal. a little chocolate perhaps? and a postcard too.

socks are done!
socks are done!

so once i was done with these socks i realized that i had only one project on the needles: socks for KP. i really needed to start something for myself so i cast-on for my slinky garter stitch wrap. 80 stitches on US19 needles. it’s like knitting with baseball bats, but fun and mindless none the less.

i can’t really carry this around with me because the needles are too big, so i’ll be knitting on KP’s socks all week at the play. speaking of which, the play is going really well. PLEASE come out and see it this week. it’s the LAST week! the actors are doing a fantastic job and i’d really like to see this week sell out. don’t make me beg!

and i got called for jury duty again. i postponed the first time back in january and i can’t postpone again (or at least, i can postpone but i have to do it in person so why not just go and get it over with.) i wish that i could postpone because things are really crazy at work right now. my boss quit a couple of weeks back and now another of my coworkers is leaving which means stressful times ahead. i’d rather not sit in a courtroom all day and then have to work all night to get caught up.

anyway, i’m going to cast-on for green gable this coming weekend and use my denise needles so that i can bring it to the courthouse. sigh. it never rains but it pours, huh?
