patterns

as a modern day knitter, i have spent countless hours online, pouring over magazines and books looking for suitable designs that are clean-cut and flattering with timeless qualities. it’s my goal to knit things that will last! i spend so much of my free time on knitting and my spare dollars on top-quality fibers that i want to be able to pull my creations out of the closet years from now and still want to wear them. i think that other knitters out there feel the same way.

below you’ll find a collection of patterns that i have either made myself or am distributing for others. some are free, others are not. there are also just links to patterns that i have found online, some i’ve tested and others i desperately want to get started on!

LIDO WEST WRAP

365.339 (365.155:2009) - lido west wrap

Materials – Blue Heron Metallic Rayon, 1 skein, US7 needles
Measurements – n/a
Skill Level – Easy
Price – Free

lido west is a small stretch of beach located in the township of hempstead on long island. during the summer, we would try to make it to lido beach at least once per week, sunning ourselves until we were bleary eyed and starving for mediterranean food and cold beers. having a light wrap to cover up with on the long ride home was essential. it does get cold when the sun goes down, even in the middle of summer in new york. this shawl is inspired by a stitch pattern that i came across in a 1960s vogue knitting magazine. it was used for a cardigan, but i modified it to fit in between a simple eyelet border on two ends and garter stitch on the edge. made from a light rayon metallic yarn, the wrap is warm enough to keep sun-soaked shoulders from getting too chilly and slinky enough to wear to the bar after a hard day at the beach.

VINO ARM WARMERS

vino arm warmers

Materials – Cascade 220, 1 skein, US8 and US7 needles (two circulars, sets of DPNs, or one long circular using magic loop)
Measurements – n/a
Skill Level – Easy
Price – Free

i came up with this pattern after lusting after a pattern on wine and needles. i wanted to make my arm warmers long, though, and in the round so i came up with this incarnation. one skein of cascade 220 is all you’ll need and you’ll have plenty of yarn leftover. i would guess that you’re only using about 185/190 yds for this rendition so, if you have less yarn, you can cut down the number of repeats and make shorter ones. or if you have the full 220 yds feel free to make the arm warmers a little longer! the only tricky thing about this pattern is the cable design which has you twisting stitches without a cable needle but once you get the hang of it, you can do it in your sleep.
